The legendary John Henry “Doc” Holliday. Well, his early career definitely doesn’t have much in common with casinos and gambling. He was a dentist, born in 1851 in Griffin, Georgia. Like it often happens with strong people life wasn’t mild to Doc – aged only 23 he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Somehow it was not a very tempting casino especially at the evening. Interior and carpet were kept clean and air was good thanks to
the laws limiting smoking inside public buildings.
The entire casino area was seen in the first foot step itself. So there was nothing to roam around inside the casino as I use to do at many Las Vegas houses.
Most of the people there were kind of serious gamblers and the table games section was surprisingly silent. Out of the two hundred odd machines, most of them were looking new and sparkling.

But I did not understand why they have put stool for the seating at slot machines. I always want comfortable chairs with at least decent cushion back rests.
Even though I liked many of their modern games, I stopped play intermittently because of the uncomfortable seatings. I won’t say that Doc Holliday lacked good ambience but it was not a very high energy casino where you want to stick around whole night and day.

Remember a scene in Tombstone where Wyatt Earp leads gambler Johnny Tyler out of the Oriental and into the street? Something like that really happened.
Tyler was head of a gambling group called The Slopers. In mid-February 1881, he pulled a gun on a dealer at the Oriental, trying to take over the game. That was when Earp disarmed Tyler, grabbed him by the ear and threw him out—while Doc Holliday kept Tyler’s friends at bay with a pistol. Tyler left town a couple of months later as the Earp faction controlled gambling in Tombstone.
